Pope Leo XIV Celebrates Solemn Mass at the Vatican for the Jubilee of Families

On Sunday, June 1st, 2025, St. Peter’s Square was the setting for a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Pope Leo XIV, marking the Jubilee of Families, Children, Grandparents, and the Elderly. Over 70,000 faithful from 131 countries gathered for the occasion, reflecting the universality of the Church and the central role of the family as the cornerstone of society.

A Message of Unity and Family Love

In his homily, the Holy Father emphasized the importance of family unity, stating: “Christ asks that we may all be ‘one.’ This is the greatest good we can desire.” He underscored that the family is the privileged space where faith is passed on and the future of peoples is built.

The Pope’s Embrace of the Faithful

Before Mass, Pope Leo XIV toured the square in the popemobile, warmly greeting and blessing the faithful—especially the children, whom he called a “sign of hope.” He also addressed grandparents and the elderly, praising them as “authentic models of faith and inspiration for the younger generations.”

A Call for Peace and Solidarity

During the Regina Caeli, the Pope expressed his closeness to families suffering from war and violence, particularly in the Middle East, Ukraine, and other regions of the world. He entrusted them to the protection of the Virgin Mary and renewed his call for peace.

A Celebration Open to All

The Mass was livestreamed, allowing millions of faithful around the globe to participate virtually. An Italian Sign Language (LIS) interpretation was also made available to ensure accessibility for all.

This Jubilee celebration was a profound moment of communion and reflection on the importance of the family in building a more just and compassionate society.
