Fear spread across Japan this morning after a powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck the northern part of the country, with its epicenter in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Iwate Prefecture. The quake was strongly felt even hundreds of kilometers away, reaching Tokyo, where several buildings swayed for a few seconds.
Immediately after the tremor, Japanese authorities issued a tsunami alert along part of the northeastern coastline. In the following hours, abnormal waves were reported at the port of Kuji, while residents in coastal areas were urged to move to higher and safer ground.
Japan, considered one of the most prepared countries in the world when it comes to earthquakes, immediately activated its emergency response system. Rescue teams and monitoring centers are assessing possible damage to infrastructure, roads, and homes.
Among the inspections underway are checks at the Onagawa nuclear power plant, a facility known for being located in an area particularly sensitive to seismic activity. At the moment, no significant anomalies have been reported, but inspections are continuing.
Disruptions were also reported in rail transport, with some high speed train services temporarily suspended to allow safety inspections on the tracks.
The Japanese government urged citizens to remain extremely cautious, warning that strong aftershocks could occur in the coming hours.
Once again, Japan is facing the force of nature, in a country accustomed to earthquakes but never truly indifferent when events of this scale occur.
Paura in Giappone nella mattinata di oggi, dove un violento terremoto di magnitudo 7.5 ha colpito l’area settentrionale del Paese, con epicentro nell’Oceano Pacifico al largo della prefettura di Iwate. Il sisma è stato avvertito in modo netto anche a centinaia di chilometri di distanza, fino a Tokyo, dove diversi edifici hanno oscillato per alcuni secondi.
Subito dopo la scossa, le autorità giapponesi hanno attivato l’allerta tsunami lungo parte della costa nord orientale. Nelle ore successive sono state segnalate onde anomale nel porto di Kuji, mentre la popolazione delle aree costiere è stata invitata a spostarsi verso zone più elevate e sicure.
Il Giappone, tra i Paesi più preparati al mondo sul fronte sismico, ha immediatamente attivato il proprio sistema di emergenza. Le squadre di soccorso e i centri di monitoraggio stanno valutando eventuali danni a infrastrutture, strade e abitazioni.
Tra le verifiche avviate anche quelle relative alla centrale nucleare di Onagawa, struttura già nota per essere situata in una zona particolarmente sensibile dal punto di vista sismico. Al momento non sarebbero state segnalate anomalie rilevanti, ma i controlli proseguono.
Disagi anche nei trasporti ferroviari: alcune linee ad alta velocità sono state temporaneamente sospese per consentire le ispezioni di sicurezza sui binari.
Il governo giapponese ha invitato i cittadini alla massima prudenza, ricordando che nelle ore successive potrebbero verificarsi scosse di assestamento anche intense.
Ancora una volta il Giappone si trova a fare i conti con la forza della natura, in un Paese abituato ai terremoti ma mai davvero indifferente davanti a eventi di questa portata.
