For five days, Taormina will once again become one of the leading hubs of the international film scene. From June 10 to June 14, the Sicilian town will host the 72nd edition of the Taormina Film Festival, an event that has successfully combined the charm of its history with its ability to attract some of the most prominent figures in the global audiovisual industry.
Once again, the festival will unfold within the breathtaking setting of the Ancient Theatre of Taormina, a landmark overlooking both the sea and Mount Etna. For the occasion, it will transform into a stage where cinema, television, culture and local heritage come together.
The 2026 edition features a program that combines internationally acclaimed guests, new productions, tributes to masters of cinema and a strong focus on younger generations. Under the artistic direction of Tiziana Rocca, the festival continues to look toward the future while preserving the legacy of great cinematic tradition.
Accompanying this year’s edition will be Anna Valle, who has been chosen as the festival’s godmother. A beloved figure among Italian audiences, she embodies elegance, professionalism and a career built across both television and film.
Among the most anticipated guests are two true icons of world cinema, Helen Mirren and Russell Crowe. The British actress will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award during a special evening dedicated to Anna Magnani, accompanied by a screening of the restored version of Luchino Visconti’s Bellissima, celebrating the 75th anniversary of its original release.
There is also great anticipation surrounding Russell Crowe, who will present the world premiere of the thriller Bear Country and receive the International Achievement Award, a recognition dedicated to personalities who have made a significant contribution to the history of world cinema.

The first episode of the new season will be presented in Taormina by cast members Steve Toussaint, Tom Glynn Carney, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia and Phoebe Campbell, turning the Ancient Theatre into one of the focal points of the global fantasy television universe.
On the competitive side, the festival will be structured around four main sections: the International Feature Film Competition, the new short film competition Sguardi di Sicilia, the Out of Competition section and the Special Events hosted at the Ancient Theatre.
The competing works will be judged by an outstanding jury chaired by Academy Award winning director Jane Campion. Joining her will be Academy Award winner Holly Hunter, costume designer Miyako Bellizzi, acclaimed casting director Francine Maisler, filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr., Amazon MGM Studios executive Sue Kroll, and actor and director Pietro Castellitto. Together they represent some of the most influential voices in contemporary cinema.
Young people will also play a central role. Around three hundred students will take part in the Campus Giovani program, giving them the opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals and contribute to the awarding of several festival prizes.
Alongside the cinematic program, the festival continues to strengthen its connection with Sicily through initiatives dedicated to gastronomy, design and the promotion of local excellence. Among the most interesting events is the panel Women Beyond the Gaze, dedicated to the women who are helping redefine the role of women within the audiovisual industry. The discussion will bring together professionals from different areas of cinema and culture.
There will also be space for business and entrepreneurship through the presentation of the Golden Globes Prize for Documentary to Brunello, the Gentle Visionary, directed by Academy Award winner Giuseppe Tornatore and dedicated to the story of entrepreneur Brunello Cucinelli.

Dal 10 al 14 giugno, la città siciliana ospiterà la 72ª edizione del Taormina Film Festival, una manifestazione che negli anni ha saputo intrecciare il fascino della sua storia con la capacità di attrarre grandi protagonisti del panorama audiovisivo mondiale.
La cornice sarà ancora una volta quella del Teatro Antico, luogo simbolo che guarda contemporaneamente al mare e all’Etna, trasformandosi per l’occasione in un palcoscenico dove cinema, televisione, cultura e territorio dialogano tra loro.
L’edizione 2026 punta su un programma che unisce grandi nomi internazionali, nuove produzioni, omaggi ai maestri della settima arte e attenzione alle nuove generazioni. Sotto la direzione artistica di Tiziana Rocca, il festival conferma la volontà di guardare al futuro mantenendo viva la memoria della grande tradizione cinematografica.

Con lei ci saranno l’attrice premio Oscar Holly Hunter, la costumista Miyako Bellizzi, la celebre casting director Francine Maisler, il regista Akinola Davies Jr., Sue Kroll di Amazon MGM Studios e l’attore e regista Pietro Castellitto. Non mancherà uno spazio dedicato ai giovani. Circa trecento studenti parteciperanno alle attività del Campus Giovani e avranno l’opportunità di confrontarsi con professionisti del settore, contribuendo anche all’assegnazione di alcuni premi del festival.
Accanto al grande cinema, il festival rinnova il suo legame con la Sicilia attraverso iniziative dedicate all’enogastronomia, al design e alla valorizzazione delle eccellenze del territorio. Un percorso che trasforma la manifestazione in una vera esperienza culturale diffusa, capace di coinvolgere pubblico, istituzioni e attività locali.
Tra gli appuntamenti più interessanti spicca anche il panel Donne oltre lo sguardo, dedicato alle figure femminili che stanno contribuendo a ridefinire il ruolo delle donne nell’industria audiovisiva contemporanea. Spazio anche alla cultura d’impresa con la consegna del Golden Globes Prize for Documentary al documentario Brunello, il visionario garbato, firmato dal premio Oscar Giuseppe Tornatore e dedicato alla storia dell’imprenditore Brunello Cucinelli.
