The iconic city of Milan has been many things. This September it has been extremely honest.
After seasons that brought big brands who focused on “hard to wear” exclusive style, SS27 brought fashion back down to earth — and to the stores. The message from the runways was clear: we want to dress real women again.
THE HOLY TRINITY
FENDI wears the crown. If Milan had to pick a winner, it would be Fendi. No gimmicks. Just perfect coats, perfect bags, perfect Roman women who have somewhere to go. It was grown-up, expensive, and very desirable.
GUCCI, by Demna, finally makes sense. The most anticipated debut in years and Demna understood the assignment. He staged it as “The Store Show” — literally inside a purpose-built Gucci boutique. For the first time, he put normal clothing at the center. This is not Gucci just for gala mannequins. This is high fashion translated for the woman who actually shops. Elevated, yes. Unreachable, no.
PRADA remains Prada. Intellectual, austere, untouchable in the best way. Their style doesn’t change but the quality gets only better and the fashion shows are only top celebrities.
THE BIG ITALIAN ETERNAL BRANDS AND FLASHING COMEBACKS
TOD’S proves why it is so eternal. The crafting of leather has never been so refined and stylish — leather skirts that make a difference and loafers that fit like comfy slippers. Pure Italian excellence, without shouting. Anna Wintour, the queen of fashion, was present at most of the fashion shows of the big and famous brands. We “caught her off guard” in a red leather outfit at the front row of Tod’s. Devil wears red and it suits her perfectly. Red is also a big come back in all collections SS 27 .
ERMANNO SCERVINO was exquisite. Forty-eight looks of pure Made in Italy craftsmanship — hibiscus lace, suede pierced like lingerie, crocodile nappa patinated for months until it feels like a second skin. And a front row that stopped traffic: Chiara Ferragni, back at MFW after years of non presence together with mother Marina Di Guardo and sister Valentina, all in Scervino. Next to them, famous Hollywood actress Rosario Dawson in black lace and leather and stunning Elisabetta Gregoraci in brown suede. Family, Hollywood, dynasty. Very Milan.
LAURA BIAGIOTTI IS BACK
The cashmere queen is officially back. White, soft, romantic — the Biagiotti DNA is breathing again, stronger than ever. Lavinia Biagiotti is back and the collection is exquisite in their classic white that was the color that was the main theme of the collections of her mother.
And then there is the royalty of Milan Fashion Week — and this title definitely belongs to D&G. Classic and sensual style with a strong folkloristic soul, praising the art of Sicilian craftsmen. D&G highly maintains the top of the podium thanks to an evolved marketing campaign and extraordinary sales. The presence of international VIPs is always massive and the brand ambassadors — Madonna, JLo, Naomi, Michele Morrone, Vittoria Ceretti — and all the most famous young influencers are always part of their Milan events. Royalty, indeed.
ROBERTO CAVALLI by Fausto Puglisi roared again. Puglisi has found the house’s power again. The signature animalier, the fearless drape, the pure sensuality — all there, but finally looking like 2027, not 2007. The crowd stood up.
THE NEW GENERATION
Marco Rambaldi I interviewed Marco during Alta moda Roma many years ago and he was emerging as a star of fashion and now present at the MFW he is one of the most sought for designers. With his art he brought color, joy and bodies that look like real bodies.
Hui Milan by Chinese designer Milan based Hui Zhou Zhao is the Chinese-Italian revelation to watch, architectural and fiercely feminine. And English born based in Milan Simon Cracker, the alternative dreamer of the Milan Fashion, bringing new alternative vibes to the Italian fashion.
THE TAKEAWAY?
Democratization without dilution. Wearable luxury. Finally it is here for the luck of the buyers.
Global Event Magazine NYC and CEO Ekaterina Shevliakova was present accredited officially with Camera della Moda at many shows where it was possible to get accreditation.
Ha messo in scena “The Store Show”, letteralmente all’interno di una boutique Gucci costruita appositamente. Irraggiungibile, no.
PRADA resta Prada.
