For many Italian viewers, Katherine Kelly Lang has long been a familiar presence in their homes. Her face brings to mind a regular TV appointment, conversations about Brooke’s choices, perhaps even memories of watching The Bold and the Beautiful with a mother or grandmother. In this interview, she shares what she still wants to pursue: new characters, creative ventures, and the freedom to change, supported by the affection of the audience that has followed her for so many years.

Being recognized through one character for so long creates a precious bond and leaves us wondering: what other stories does the person behind that character want to tell?

In her answers, Katherine honors that bond with gratitude while looking ahead to the possibilities still before her. “Brooke has been such an important part of my life, and I’m incredibly grateful for her, but she doesn’t fully define who I am as an actress,” she says. Then she offers a thought that captures the spirit of this conversation: “I don’t believe there’s an expiration date on trying something new.”

One of those opportunities is La mia storia con te, the romantic comedy directed by Angelo Frezza, starring Maria Guerriero and Luca Nobili, which is scheduled to open in Italian theaters on November 5, 2026. Filmed in Rimini, it casts her as Barbara, an American producer who helps actress Sofia break free from her manager’s control.

Katherine recognizes that freedom in Barbara and feels a connection to it in her own journey. As she talks about possibilities she has yet to explore, Italy, and her desire to reinvent herself, the story of the film becomes intertwined with her own life.

Our interview begins here: with a woman who helps another woman find her voice, and an actress who continues to discover new shades of her own.

What drew you to Barbara and the role she plays in Sofia’s story?
“What drew me to Barbara is that she’s a strong woman who knows the industry, but she also understands what it means to be a woman trying to find her voice within it. She understands what Sofia is going through, and instead of telling her what to do, she helps her realize that she has the right to make her own choices.

I also really appreciated that Barbara isn’t simply there to ‘save’ Sofia. She offers the support and perspective Sofia needs to find her own strength. That was very important to me, because I believe true empowerment means helping someone recognize their own potential.”

Barbara helps Sofia break free from her manager’s control. In your view, where does supporting someone’s talent end and making decisions for them begin?
“I think that line is crossed when support turns into control. If you’re managing or supporting someone’s career, your job should be to help them grow, protect their interests, and open doors for them, not make every decision on their behalf.

Ultimately, it’s their life and their career. You can offer advice, experience, and guidance, but that person has to be able to say, ‘This is what I want.’ I think many women can relate to that, especially in industries where other people sometimes feel entitled to tell you who you should be, how you should look, or what direction your career should take.”

Audiences have known and loved you as Brooke for so many years. What does playing a different character like Barbara allow you to explore as an actress?
“That’s one of the things I love most about acting. Brooke has been such an important part of my life, and I’m incredibly grateful for her, but she doesn’t fully define who I am as an actress.

Playing Barbara allows me to show a different side of myself: an experienced, confident woman with a strong business sense who is very aware of the world around her. After playing the same character for so many years, stepping into someone new is incredibly exciting. It reminds me why I fell in love with acting: the chance to step outside yourself and explore another person’s perspective.

And honestly, I think it’s important to keep challenging yourself. Reinvention has become a very important word for me at this stage of my life. I don’t believe there’s an expiration date on trying something new.”

The film tells the story of a woman taking back control of her life and career. Can you recall a choice in your own journey that made you feel freer?
“Absolutely. I think there have been several moments in my life when I realized I couldn’t keep waiting for someone else to give me permission to evolve.

For me, freedom has often come from making a decision and trusting myself, even when I didn’t know exactly where it would lead. Lately, I’ve been venturing into fashion and other creative areas that I hadn’t fully explored before. That has been incredibly liberating because it’s allowing me to be more than the role people already know me for.

I’ve learned that sometimes the biggest risk is staying where you are, where you feel comfortable, simply because everyone expects you to stay there. There comes a point when you have to say, ‘This is what I want to explore now,’ and give yourself permission to do it.”

If you could choose just one memory from filming in Rimini to take with you, what would it be, and why?
“I think it was the feeling of being there and discovering Rimini through the film. We weren’t simply filming in a studio. We were immersed in the atmosphere, the people, and the beautiful locations, and all of that became an integral part of the filmmaking experience.

But if I had to choose one thing, it would be the people. Every film becomes special because of the people you share it with, and this was a wonderful group. Working with Maria Guerriero, Angelo Frezza, and the entire cast and Italian crew made me feel truly welcome.

And there was something especially meaningful about making an Italian film in Italy. I’ve spent much of my career working abroad, so being able to make a film here and collaborate with an Italian production in this way was a wonderful experience that I’ll always carry with me.”

Beyond the film, what would you like to say to women who feel they’ve put their own desires aside too often?
“I would say: don’t lose yourselves while taking care of everyone else.

There are so many reasons women set their dreams aside: family, relationships, work, expectations, or simply the belief that there will always be time in the future. But the future isn’t guaranteed. I firmly believe we need to make time for ourselves and for the things that make us feel alive.

And it’s never too late. I think I’ve learned that more and more with age. Reinvention isn’t just for the young. You can start something new at any age. You can change direction, discover a new passion, take a risk, or simply decide that you want something different.

You don’t need anyone’s permission to evolve. Sometimes you just have to give it to yourself.”

For years, audiences have followed Brooke, wondering what her next choice would be. In this conversation, Katherine leaves us with a question that speaks to our own lives: what do we still want to choose for ourselves?

She describes finding freedom in trusting herself, even without knowing where she would end up. Her words may resonate with anyone who has put a dream on hold amid everyday responsibilities and the belief that, sooner or later, the right moment would come.

It is one of the interview’s most intimate and personal moments: a familiar face gently invites us, almost without our realizing it, to look at a part of ourselves we may have neglected. The part that still wants to try, to change direction, to feel alive. And that finally deserves some of the time we devote to everyone else.
