USA turns blue.
In a stunning midterm reversal, Democrats have taken back the majority in the United States Senate, painting the electoral map in a color Washington hasn’t seen in years.
Veto Cap Moment
In the most unexpected image of the night, President Donald Trump appeared in a photo wearing a bright red cap, but this time the word on it wasn’t MAGA – it was VETO.
Later that night, in an audio interview, Trump surprised the country again. In his own voice, he said the “dems have done a great job” and publicly congratulated them on winning back the Senate.
The photo and the audio together instantly went viral.
Texas Makes History
The biggest shock of the night came from Texas. A state that has been Republican for a generation has elected the first openly gay Senator in its history (with his husband present at the ceremony ) and the only second Democratic Senator in Texas in many years.
In one race, Texas broke two barriers at once. The victory was joined by another milestone on the night – the election of the first Black woman to the Senate from her state.
Democrats All Over The World Are Celebrating
From watch parties in Washington and New York to gatherings in London, Paris, Berlin and Rome, Democrats abroad erupted in celebration. The Texas result in particular sent a message far beyond America: if Texas can turn, anywhere can.
But What Will Happen Next?
With the majority back, Democrats have the power to push nominations and try to advance legislation that has been stalled for years. But that red VETO cap was no symbolism – it was a reminder from Trump that while the Dems won the night, the ultimate veto power in Washington still belongs to him.
Will this new blue and more diverse Senate find a way to work with a president who already holds the final say, or will it run straight into Trump’s veto?
I Democratici Di Tutto Il Mondo Festeggiano
