What was initially expected to be a “clash of the titan’s” eventually turned out to be as the international press defined it – a lovefest at the oval office between the president Donald Trump and the new elected mayor of New York city Zohran Mamdani. Trump literally shocked the whole world by being extremely welcoming and positive towards what used to be his strong opponent.
The conversation between the two shifted in a very friendly way thanks to Trump’s exclusive politeness and openness versus Mamdani. The Friday Oval office encounter was highly anticipated with both politicians exchanging insults for months. Surprisingly instead of insults the encounter was all sweetness and positive vibes.
The Republican and very right-wing magnate and the democratic socialist Mamdani battled together the awkward questions of the press and accusations of fascism and literally bonded in front of the surprised journalists for the sake of New York citizens and with the goal of improving the life inside the city that is also a birthplace for Donald Trump.
During the mayoral race the tensions between two were extremely high – Trumped called Mamdani a “communist” and Mamdani accused trump of being a fascist. But seems that on Friday all the controversy disappeared. Reporters reminded the President that Mamdani once called him a “fascist” and instead of exploding trump reacted with a light laugh. “That’s ok, – he told Mamdani, – You can just say yes. It’s easier than explaining”. Later, when someone mentioned that Mamdani called him a despot, Trump commented “I’ve been called much worse than a despot”.
He also confirmed that he thinks that Mamdani would make a great Mayor and that he would prefer to live in New York governed by a mayor like him. This encounter proved the fact that Trump and Mamdani have many things in common – they are both described as “populists” inside their parties, and this has been one of the reasons what made these two leaders so popular. The fact is that nowadays the voters tend to choose not a party, but a charismatic leader which both are.
While the press defined this encounter a “Lovefest” or “Love at first policy disagreement” it seems that Donald Trump and Mamdani have really united for now with the mutual goal to make New York more affordable, more safe and bring back to the city the greatness that always has defined this city that is really the most important city in the USA.
Quello che inizialmente ci si aspettava fosse uno “scontro tra titani” si è trasformato invece in quello che la stampa internazionale ha definito un vero e proprio “lovefest” nello Studio Ovale tra il presidente Donald Trump e il neo eletto sindaco di New York, Zohran Mamdani. Trump ha letteralmente scioccato il mondo intero mostrandosi estremamente accogliente e positivo nei confronti di quello che fino a poco tempo prima era stato un suo forte oppositore.
La conversazione tra i due ha assunto toni sorprendentemente amichevoli grazie all’esclusiva cortesia e apertura dimostrate da Trump nei confronti di Mamdani. L’incontro del venerdì nello Studio Ovale era molto atteso, soprattutto dopo mesi in cui entrambi i politici si erano scambiati insulti. Sorprendentemente, invece delle offese, il confronto è stato caratterizzato da dolcezza e vibrazioni positive.
Il magnate repubblicano, fortemente di destra, e il socialista democratico Mamdani hanno affrontato insieme le domande scomode della stampa e le accuse di fascismo, arrivando addirittura a creare un legame di fronte ai giornalisti increduli, con l’obiettivo comune di agire per il bene dei cittadini di New York e migliorare la vita all’interno della città, che è anche la città natale di Donald Trump.
Durante la campagna elettorale le tensioni tra i due erano altissime: Trump aveva definito Mamdani un “comunista” e Mamdani aveva accusato Trump di essere un fascista. Ma sembra che venerdì tutte le polemiche siano svanite. Quando i giornalisti hanno ricordato al Presidente che Mamdani lo aveva una volta chiamato “fascista”, Trump ha reagito con una leggera risata. “Va bene,” ha detto rivolgendosi a Mamdani, “puoi semplicemente dire sì. È più facile che spiegare.” In seguito, quando qualcuno ha menzionato che Mamdani lo aveva definito un despota, Trump ha commentato: “Mi hanno chiamato molto peggio di un despota.”
Ha inoltre dichiarato di ritenere che Mamdani sarà un ottimo sindaco e che preferirebbe vivere in una New York governata da un sindaco come lui. Questo incontro ha dimostrato che Trump e Mamdani hanno molte cose in comune: entrambi sono considerati “populisti” all’interno dei rispettivi partiti, ed è proprio questa una delle ragioni che li ha resi così popolari. Il fatto è che oggi gli elettori tendono a scegliere non tanto un partito, quanto un leader carismatico, e loro lo sono entrambi.
Mentre la stampa ha definito l’incontro un “lovefest” o “amore al primo disaccordo politico”, sembra che Donald Trump e Mamdani si siano davvero uniti, almeno per ora, con l’obiettivo comune di rendere New York più accessibile, più sicura e di restituire alla città quella grandezza che l’ha sempre definita, essendo realmente la città più importante degli Stati Uniti.
